Role Overview

 

The Software Engineer I (SWE I) Marketing CMS role is an entry-level to early-career engineering position focused on building and maintaining frontend components and integrations within our Backstage CMS platform.

 

In this role you will primarily work with React and Next.js to support marketing-driven website functionality, assist in CMS component development, and collaborate with senior engineers to deliver scalable, high-quality web experiences. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, comfortable working in modern JavaScript frameworks, and interested in growing into a full-stack engineer over time.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and maintain frontend components using React and Next.js within CMS-driven websites
  • Assist in implementing and updating CMS content structures and reusable components
  • Work with senior engineers to integrate APIs and backend services
  • Support A/B testing, feature flag implementations, and marketing-driven updates
  • Troubleshoot UI issues and assist with bug fixes in production environments
  • Participate in code reviews and team agile ceremonies (standups, sprint planning, retrospectives)
  • Follow best practices for clean, maintainable, and accessible code
  • Learn and contribute to performance improvements and frontend optimization efforts
  • Collaborate with Product, Marketing, and Engineering teams on feature delivery

 

 

Required Skills & Experience

 

  • 0-2 years of professional software engineering experience OR relevant internships/projects
  • Working knowledge of React (strong preference) and modern JavaScript (ES6+)
  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and responsive design
  • Familiarity with Git and version control workflows
  • Understanding of component-based development concepts
  • Ability to learn quickly and follow established engineering patterns
  • Experience building frontend applications (school, bootcamp, or professional)
  • Exposure to React or similar frontend frameworks
  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent

 

 

Additional Skills

 

  • Experience with Next.js
  • Familiarity with headless CMS platforms (Builder.io, Contentful, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of REST APIs
  • Exposure to TypeScript
  • Awareness of web performance and debugging tools
  • Experience working on marketing sites or CMS-driven applications
  • Exposure to A/B testing, analytics, or tag management tools
  • Internship or junior role in a modern web development environment
