About the Role

You will work on CultureMonkey's core product: an employee engagement platform used by HR teams across 100+ countries. This is not a shadowing-only internship. You will pick up real tickets, ship to production behind feature flags, and own small features end to end.

The one thing we care about most: you use AI coding tools well. We expect you to work with AI assistants as a daily driver and be able to explain and defend every line you ship.

What You Will Do

• Fix simple bugs and UI issues
• Build small features (forms, CRUD pages, simple APIs)
• Write and update model, controller, and request tests (RSpec or Minitest)
• Update views, CSS, and JavaScript for minor UI improvements
• Debug issues with guidance from senior developers
• Review pull requests and address review comments
• Write or update project documentation
• Run the application locally, test changes, and report issues
• Learn Git workflows (branching, commits, pull requests, rebasing)
• Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives

What We Are Looking For

• Solid fundamentals in any programming language (Ruby, Python, Java, Go, JavaScript, C++, or whatever you are strongest in). We will teach you Ruby and Rails
• Comfortable with SQL and relational data modelling
• Working knowledge of Git and pull request workflows
• Demonstrated hands-on use of at least one AI coding assistant, with real examples you can walk us through
• Clear written communication. You will be asked to explain your reasoning in PR descriptions
• Curiosity and ownership. You ask questions early instead of getting stuck silently

Bonus Points

• Any Rails, Django, or Node.js side project deployed and running somewhere
• Exposure to Elasticsearch, Redis, or background job systems
• Open-source contributions, hackathon projects, or a public GitHub profile with real commits
• Familiarity with prompt engineering, AI agents, or building with LLM APIs

How We Evaluate

• Resume and GitHub screen
• A short take-home task (3 to 4 hours). You are encouraged to use AI tools. We will ask you to submit a short note on which tools you used and where you overrode them
• Technical discussion on your submission: we will ask you to modify and extend your own code live
• Culture and communication round
